A Phenomenological Study on the Child Care Experience of Mothers with Children with Adult Developmental Disabilities

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the experiences of caring for mothers of children with adult developmental disabilities. There were 5 participants in the study, and Giorgi's phenomenological research method was applied, and as a result, 40 semantic units, 16 subcategories, and 7 categories were derived. It was confirmed as the mother's perception of the disabled child, difficult care, the child's independence problem, the mother's active effort, the support in the care process, enlightenment and change, and the wish for a happy life of the disabled child. In this study, a study was conducted to lay the foundation for alternative solutions that provide emotional and psychological help to mothers of children with disabilities in their 20s and early 30s in the process of taking care of their children. Based on the results of the study, ways to help children with developmental disabilities and their mothers were discussed.
